There are not a lot of limiters designed in the 1960s that are still in production today, but the legendary Urie 1176 is one such beast.
Urie (Universal Recording Electronics Industries) was an American Audio manufacturing company founded by Bill Putman in 1957, and included a sub-division called Teletronix.
Without a doubt, the most enduring recording studio effect ever, is the Urie 1176 limiting amplifier. Although it has been manufactured under a variety of brand names over the years it is still manufactured today by Universal Audio and is used in just about every major recording studio in the world. That is a success!
