Solid State Logic Sigma Delta Summing Mixer Details

The Solid State Logic Sigma Delta is a 2U rackmount SuperAnalogue™ summing mixer engineered for DAW users who want the sonic integrity of a large-format SSL console while maintaining an in-the-box workflow. Built around SSL’s renowned mix buss topology from the Duality and AWS consoles, Sigma δelta provides up to 32 summing channels (via 16 stereo/mono switchable paths) and delivers detailed, wide, and harmonically rich mixes that emulate the cohesive distortion and extended frequency response of a fully driven analogue console.

Utilising SSL’s MDAC technology, Sigma δelta enables full remote control over its analogue circuitry. Control can be achieved via SSL’s cross-platform Remote app, compatible with macOS, Windows, and iOS, or directly through any δelta-Control (δ-Ctrl) plug-in within your DAW session. This integration ensures full automation and instant recall of mix parameters including mix buss routing and monitoring options — aligning analogue workflow with the fast-paced demands of modern production environments.

Solid State Logic Sigma Delta offers two separate stereo mix busses, each with its own stereo insert point, and direct outputs per channel, facilitating outboard processing and reprinting back into the DAW. Its comprehensive monitoring section includes main and alternate monitor outputs, headphone switching, and a talkback system, all controllable via hardware or software. Compatibility with any MCU-compliant 16-fader control surface, including SSL’s Nucleus, allows tactile command of summing and monitoring paths, even without a computer active.

Whether used as a standalone unit or to extend the capabilities of existing SSL desks like the Duality, AWS, or Matrix, Solid State Logic Sigma Delta brings analogue tone, digital precision, and exceptional workflow efficiency into perfect alignment.

The Solid State Logic Sigma Delta offers 16 input channels, each individually switchable between mono and stereo operation, allowing for up to 32 input paths at mixdown. All channels feature accurate LED metering directly on the hardware unit as well as in the remote software interface. Two independent stereo mix busses provide separate outputs and include dedicated stereo insert points, enabling techniques such as parallel compression or applying processing before printing stems back into the DAW. Mix Bus B can be routed into Mix Bus A for consolidated final mixdowns, and both mix busses feature an ‘insert sum’ function, allowing the return signal to be added back into the buss signal for added flexibility.

Each input channel includes its own direct output, enabling individual signals to be printed back into your DAW. This architecture supports seamless integration of analogue outboard processing: DAW output is routed to the processor input, then from the processor to the Sigma input, with the Sigma direct output feeding back into the DAW. Crucially, gain adjustments on Sigma occur after the outboard insert, meaning they can be automated without affecting the behaviour of your analogue processors. This approach eliminates phase shift and converter-related rounding errors often encountered when using hardware inserts inside the DAW.

The Solid State Logic Sigma Delta also features an Artist and Studio monitoring section with separate headphone and monitor circuits. Main monitor outputs include both primary and alternate connections to support two sets of studio monitors. A flexible switching matrix allows for precise selection of monitoring sources and destinations. The large rotary encoder on the front panel can be push-selected to control Mix A, Mix B, Main Monitor, or Headphone level. A talkback input with adjustable dim level is provided, along with a convenient front-panel ijack (3.5mm stereo input) feeding into the monitoring path.

A broad range of functions including source selection, monitor control, insert switching, talkback, mono check, and routing options such as summing Mix B into Mix A, can be controlled via any standard MIDI hardware control surface. MIDI Learn makes configuration straightforward. Two user-assignable push/hold buttons on the front panel, along with a footswitch input, offer additional control options. All control is transmitted over MIDI via Ethernet, linking to the cross-platform Sigma Remote software, which handles system setup and management.

The rackmount Solid State Logic Sigma Delta unit itself houses the analogue summing engine, signal routing, bright status and level indicators, hardware controls, headphone output, and the ijack input. The rear panel includes dedicated XLR outputs for Mix Bus A and both Main and Alternate monitor outputs. D-Sub connectors are used for the 16 line inputs, direct outputs, Mix Bus inserts, Mix Bus B output, and the line-level talkback input.

The Solid State Logic Sigma Delta Remote software, available for Mac, PC and iOS tablets, connects via Ethernet (or wirelessly via tablet) and provides a clear, functional interface for setup, control, and recall. The software is divided into three main pages — Master Section, Channel Detail, and Global Settings — allowing intuitive access to the full feature set. All parameters can be saved for instant recall, enabling smooth transitions between projects. While pan settings for stereo channels are not automatable, they are directly adjustable from within the browser interface.
