Rupert Neve Designs 5211 Microphone Preamplifier Details

The Rupert Neve Designs 5211 Two-Channel Mic Preamp represents the natural evolution of Rupert Neve’s most iconic designs, offering engineers and producers a refined, modern take on one of the most celebrated microphone preamp circuits in recording history. With two channels of classic Rupert Neve tone, up to 72dB of gain, and sweepable high-pass filters, the 5211 provides a precise, versatile and sonically flattering front end for any studio or live signal chain.

One of the defining features of the Rupert Neve Designs 5211 is the Silk/Texture circuit, originally developed for the Portico series. This allows users to introduce the harmonic richness of vintage Rupert Neve designs with total control. By reducing negative feedback and adjusting the frequency response of the transformer, the Silk circuit can add subtle musical saturation or be pushed to deliver bold harmonic coloration. The continuously variable Texture control takes the concept further, enabling fine adjustment of harmonic content across the spectrum, with Red Silk accentuating the mid and high frequencies.

The Rupert Neve Designs 5211 also incorporates dual-tap custom transformer outputs, providing both a standard line-level output and a separate -6dBu output. This allows engineers to fully drive the transformer stage and Silk harmonics without clipping downstream devices, with both outputs available simultaneously. An eight-segment LED meter ensures clear level monitoring, while phantom power, polarity reverse, and a continuously variable high-pass filter offer precise input control.

Simple, elegant, and uncompromising, the Rupert Neve Designs 5211 distils decades of analogue expertise into a compact, rackmountable dual-channel preamplifier that delivers the warmth, depth, and clarity expected of Rupert Neve’s legacy.
