The AEA RPQ503 delivers 85 dB of clean gain, ultra-high 68 kΩ impedance, and CurveShaper™ EQ in a 500-series format, optimised for ribbons but ideal for all microphones.

AEA RPQ503 Microphone Preamplifier Details

Based on the acclaimed third-generation circuit design of the RPQ3, the AEA RPQ503 brings the same rich and natural sound into the 500-series format. Combining high-gain, ultra-low-noise circuitry with AEA’s signature CurveShaper™ EQ, the RPQ503 offers exceptional performance optimised for ribbon microphones, yet equally impressive with dynamics and condensers.

With 85 dB of pristine gain, ultra-low distortion, and ultra-high 68 kΩ input impedance, the AEA RPQ503 reveals the full tonal range, transient detail, and depth of every microphone.

Its expanded EQ section features independent low and high-frequency boost/cut controls, with sweepable frequency ranges and shelving response, allowing engineers to tailor proximity effect, extend high-end presence, or sculpt tonal balance directly at the source.

Compact yet powerful, the AEA RPQ503 is more than just a preamp — it is a versatile signal-shaping tool suitable for tracking, mixing, and mastering. Designed and built in the USA, the AEA RPQ503 continues AEA’s legacy of transparent ribbon-optimised preamplifiers, now available in a portable 500-series form factor.
