The Tonelux Tilt was created to bring the elegantly simple and musically intuitive Tilt EQ from the MP1a mic preamp into a standalone rackmount format. Released in the late 2000s, this 1U, 19-inch unit housed eight channels of Tilt EQ, each offering a single control knob that simultaneously boosts one end of the spectrum while attenuating the other.
This “frequency seesaw” approach of the Tonelux Tilt provided a fast, effective, and musical way to shape tonal balance across multiple channels, making it ideal for both tracking and mixing situations. Each channel featured an IN/OUT switch for engaging or bypassing the EQ and a polarity switch for phase reversal, ensuring maximum flexibility.
Connectivity was straightforward, with fully balanced inputs and outputs on the Tonelux Tilt. Channels 1 and 2 offered dedicated XLR I/O, while all eight channels could be accessed via D-SUB connectors, making integration into professional setups simple.
The Tonelux Tilt was designed to be an inexpensive yet powerful solution for equalising multiple channels simultaneously, with the added advantage of Tonelux’s renowned discrete analogue circuitry. Compact, efficient, and musically effective, the Tonelux Tilt carried forward Paul Wolff’s design ethos of combining workflow practicality with distinctive analogue character.
