Andrew Scheps is one of the most accomplished and distinctive mixing engineers in the modern recording industry. Known for his bold sound, hybrid techniques, and instinctive approach to balance, he has shaped the sonic identity of artists such as Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Metallica, and Beyoncé. His work combines the warmth and character of analogue with the flexibility of digital technology, always serving the emotion and energy of the music. With multiple Grammy Awards and a career spanning genres from rock to pop and beyond, Andrew Scheps is widely regarded as one of the defining ears of the 21st century.
Born in New York, Andrew Scheps began his career as a live sound engineer before moving into studio recording. After earning a degree in recording engineering, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he became a sought-after assistant and engineer at major studios including Ocean Way and Larrabee. His technical knowledge and musical understanding soon led him into production and mixing roles.
Scheps first gained international recognition for his work with Red Hot Chili Peppers, particularly on Stadium Arcadium (2006), where his powerful and spacious mixes helped define the band’s sound. His reputation grew quickly, leading to collaborations with some of the biggest names in music, including Metallica (Death Magnetic), Adele (21), and Beyoncé (4). His ability to retain energy and warmth across both analogue and digital formats made him one of the most sought-after mixers of his generation.
In 2014, Scheps made the transition from hybrid analogue mixing to a completely in-the-box workflow, proving that creativity and sonic depth could thrive entirely in the digital domain. Now based in the United Kingdom, he runs Punkerpad West, his personal studio, where he continues to mix, teach, and consult on audio technology.
