Neumann U67 Valve Condensor Microphone

The Neumann U67 is a large diaphragm tube condenser microphone reissued to original specifications, continuing a design first introduced in 1960 and built using archived Neumann documentation.

Neumann U67 Valve Condensor Microphone Details

The Neumann U67 is a multi pattern studio microphone designed around the K 67 capsule and a tube based electronic circuit employing pre emphasis and de emphasis to reduce tube noise. It provides three selectable polar patterns comprising omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure eight, allowing use across a wide range of recording techniques.

The microphone includes a switchable low cut filter to manage proximity effect during close miking and a preattenuation switch for handling higher sound pressure levels. The current production Neumann U67 is manufactured to match the original electronic and acoustic design, including a reproduced BV 12 output transformer and selected EF86 tube.

The microphone uses a dedicated external power supply, the NU 67 V, which is designed to meet modern safety requirements while remaining compatible with earlier Neumann U67 microphones.

Neumann U67 Valve Condensor Microphone Heritage

  • 1960 to 1971

    designated as Neumann U67

Tube condenser microphone using the EF86 pentode valve with a transformer balanced output via the BV 12 output transformer. Introduced the K 67 dual diaphragm capsule. Incorporated a pre emphasis and de emphasis network to reduce tube noise. Included switchable low cut filter and preattenuation to support close miking and higher sound pressure levels.

The Neumann U67 was introduced in 1960 as the successor to the Neumann U47 and rapidly became a standard studio microphone during the 1960s. It was the first Neumann microphone to use the K 67 capsule, a design that later formed the basis of the U87 series. The U67 addressed evolving recording practices, particularly close miking, through integrated filtering and level control. Original production continued until 1971, after which the microphone became highly sought after in professional studios. The current production U67 is stated to be sonically identical to these original models, using the same capsule and electronic design recreated from archived documentation.
