Alpine

Alpine produced a range of high-quality cassette decks designed around advanced transport systems, precision tape handling and comprehensive recording controls. Models such as the AL-85 and AL-90 combined three-head configurations, direct-drive closed-loop dual-capstan mechanisms, Dolby noise reduction and detailed tape calibration facilities, with selected models adding computerised optimisation through Alpine’s B.L.E.S. system. Built for serious home and professional-style recording applications, Alpine cassette decks reflected the company’s focus on mechanical stability, accurate monitoring and flexible adjustment for different tape formulations.

The Alpine AL-80, sometimes badged as the Alpage AL-80, was a 3-head cassette deck with Dolby B and C noise reduction, metal tape support, optical peak metering and detailed recording controls. Its combination of off-tape monitoring, bias fine adjustment, automatic transport functions and optional remote operation placed it among Alpine’s more capable cassette decks of the period.

Released in 1982, the Alpine AL-85 was a three-head cassette deck with a three-motor direct-drive closed-loop dual-capstan transport and manually operated M.O.R.C. calibration. It provided independent left and right bias, recording-level and equalisation adjustment, Dolby B and C, switchable Peak/VU meters and extensive recording and transport functions.
