Movement Systems

Movement Systems was a British company founded in the early 1980s by Dave Simmons and other engineers who sought to push the boundaries of electronic percussion. Based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, the company developed the Movement Systems Drum Computer, a sophisticated hybrid drum machine that combined digital sampling with analogue processing and computer-style sequencing. Unlike simpler rhythm boxes of the era, it featured advanced programmability and disk storage, appealing to professional musicians and producers seeking precision and flexibility. Although short-lived, Movement Systems helped lay the groundwork for more advanced digital drum and sampling technologies that followed later in the decade.

The Movement Systems Drum Computer was a pioneering hybrid drum machine from early 1980s Britain, combining analogue synthesis and 8-bit sampling with a graphic sequencing interface. Only a few dozen units were built. It was adopted by select artists (notably Eurythmics and Thompson Twins) on some tracks and albums, but ultimately was overtaken by simpler, more reliable alternatives.
