Glen Ballard is a songwriter, producer, and arranger whose work spans some of the most influential pop and rock records of the past four decades. Born in Mississippi and later based in Los Angeles, Glen Ballard began his career in the late 1970s, quickly establishing himself as a versatile songwriter and studio collaborator. His early work with Quincy Jones opened the door to writing and arranging for Michael Jackson, where he contributed to three of Jackson’s biggest albums: Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous. His co writing credit on Man in the Mirror became one of Jackson’s most enduring songs and showcased Glen Ballard’s gift for emotionally resonant composition.
In the 1990s he achieved worldwide recognition through his collaboration with Alanis Morissette. Serving as both co writer and producer, he helped craft Jagged Little Pill, a landmark album that blended alternative rock energy with raw, introspective songwriting. The record became one of the biggest selling albums of the decade and earned multiple Grammy Awards. Glen Ballard also worked closely with Wilson Phillips, producing their debut album which became a major international success and featured the hit single Hold On.
Throughout his career he has collaborated with artists as diverse as Dave Matthews Band, Shakira, No Doubt, Van Halen, Annie Lennox, Aerosmith, Christina Aguilera, and Katy Perry. His work extends beyond the studio into film and television, contributing music to productions including The Polar Express, Charlotte’s Web, Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark, and the musical adaptation of Jagged Little Pill, which brought his songwriting to the stage.
