The dbx 150 Series, introduced in 1974, represented dbx’s first complete range of professional broadband noise reduction systems, bringing the company’s advanced Type I companding technology to studios of all sizes. Consisting of models such as the two-channel 152, the four-channel 154, and the rack-mountable 157, the series delivered up to 30dB of noise reduction and 10dB of additional headroom, effectively eliminating tape hiss while preserving full dynamic range and transient detail. Using dbx’s true RMS detection circuitry, the 150 Series maintained precise tracking and sonic transparency across the entire frequency spectrum. Compact, reliable, and compatible with one another, these units became a cornerstone of mid-1970s recording technology, making professional-quality noise reduction accessible to both small and large studios.
