dbx Recording Technology Series

The dbx Recording Technology Series represented the company’s pioneering approach to improving the fidelity and realism of recorded sound. Centred around dbx’s patented linear decibel companding process, these components delivered dramatic reductions in tape noise while restoring the full dynamic range of music. Products in the series, such as the dbx 224, 228, and 120, brought studio-grade noise reduction, dynamic range expansion, and signal processing to both professional and home recording environments. By addressing the limitations of conventional tape and vinyl playback, dbx transformed everyday listening into a more lifelike experience, preserving the clarity, power, and emotion of live performance.

The dbx 228 combined the professional noise reduction of the dbx 224 with the dynamic range expansion of the 1BX Series Two, providing 30dB noise reduction, 100dB dynamic range, and complete tape hiss elimination. With its dbx Disc Decoder and linear decibel companding system, it brought the sound and presence of live music to home and studio playback systems alike.
