The Vertigo Sound VSE-2 is a discrete gyrator-based equaliser designed for tracking, mix-bus, and mastering applications. It features six discrete gyrators and a dual mono design, offering a sound character described as smooth and punchy. The unit includes transformer-balanced inputs, a hi-pass filter, and unique A.I.R. mode, with all EQ parameters controlled by rotary switches.
The Vertigo Sound VSE-2 is a discrete gyrator-based equaliser that utilises six discrete gyrators to create a tube-like distortion spectrum. This design approach is intended to replicate the sound characteristics of analogue recording equipment from the golden decade, providing a unique alternative to inductor-based designs which can suffer from ringing and odd harmonics.
The Vertigo Sound VSE-2 features a dual mono design with 18 selectable frequencies on each channel. Cut and boost amplifiers are discrete operational, offering steps of +1dB, +2dB, +3.5dB, +5.5dB, and +8dB. All EQ parameters are controlled by rotary switches, and the unit includes a hi-pass filter ranging from 10Hz to 400Hz with a bypass function.
Input and output connections are transformer-balanced, specifically using a Cinemag Balanced In and a That 1646 Balanced Out. The Vertigo Sound VSE-2 includes a unique A.I.R. mode, described as an enhancement of the auditory threshold. The device is noted for its super low noise performance and is manufactured by Mustang Sound GmbH in Munich, Germany.
