Audix SCX1 Studio Cardioid Condenser Microphone Details

The Audix SCX1 is a professional studio cardioid condenser microphone designed for recording, broadcast, and live sound applications. It features a 21 mm gold vapour capsule with a modular design, allowing for interchangeable polar patterns including hypercardioid and omnidirectional variants. The microphone offers a smooth, uniform frequency response and minimal proximity effect, making it suitable for studio vocals, overheads, orchestral sections, and acoustic instruments. Constructed with a precision-machined brass body and a black multi-layer class ‘A’ liquid finish, the SCX1 is designed, machined, assembled, and tested in the USA.

The Audix SCX1 is characterised by a wide cardioid polar pattern, high output, and high sensitivity, making it an ideal choice for miking overheads, drums, instruments, room ambiance, orchestral sections, stringed instruments, piano, vibes, and sound effects. The Audix SCX1 exhibits excellent phase coherence and is very consistent when responding to on and off-axis signals. It is also an excellent choice for group vocals, speech, or Foley work, while the hypercardioid variant (SCX1HC) is noted as a popular choice for interior dialogue boom pole miking and hi-hat capture.

Acoustic performance is supported by a 21 mm gold vapour capsule and miniaturised electronics that provide an extremely small footprint. The SCX1 can handle sound pressure levels of 130 dB and provides up to 20 dB of ambient noise rejection. The unit features a precision-machined brass body with interchangeable capsules, a black multi-layer class ‘A’ liquid finish, and a gold-plated XLR connector. It is manufactured to exacting standards and tight tolerances.

Operation requires 48-52V phantom power, which is available on most professional mic preamps and mixing devices. The Audix SCX1 is a low-impedance unit intended for ‘mic level’ inputs. Supplied accessories include a protective zippered carrying case, a DCLIP microphone clip, and a WSF9 external windscreen. Optional accessories include the APS2 phantom power supply, DFLEX mounting clips, STANDKD pedestal stand, SMT25 shock mount, PD133 pop diffuser, CBL20 cable, and P1 carrying pouch.
