The Chameleon Labs 7603 XMod is a Class A microphone preamplifier and equaliser, built with hand-selected components and a focus on rich, musical tone. It features discrete circuitry and a carefully engineered signal path that incorporates Carnhill UK microphone and output transformers, along with a Chameleon Labs custom-wound line input transformer housed in MuMetal for minimal interference and maximum sonic integrity.
Designed as an evolution of the original 7603, the Chameleon Labs 7603 XMOD offers refined character and exceptional performance whether used as a front-end preamp for tracking vocals, acoustic instruments, and bass, or as a stereo pair on your mix buss for final tonal shaping.
Its three-band inductor EQ provides detailed tonal control with musical response, while a variable gain output stage allows precise level setting with minimal noise. The unit also offers high-pass filtering, switchable input impedance (300Ω or 1200Ω), a phase reverse switch, LED indicators for input and output overloads, and a VU meter for level monitoring.
A TRS instrument input on the front panel ensures flexibility for direct injection needs. The Chameleon Labs 7603 XMOD’s internal universal switchmode power supply allows worldwide operation without external conversion. Every internal component is deliberately selected and laid out to maintain the sonic excellence Chameleon Labs is known for.
Manufactured in North America, the Chameleon Labs 7603 XMOD merges meticulous construction with British-flavoured tone and modern engineering, making it a reliable and musical tool for studios around the world.
