Drawmer DC2476 is an all-digital stereo mastering processor developed for high-end mastering, broadcast, and production applications. Released in 2001, Drawmer DC2476 was designed as a complete digital mastering solution, combining advanced dynamics processing, equalisation, saturation modelling, and precision output control within a single 1U unit. It integrates high-quality 24-bit conversion with an extensive internal DSP architecture, allowing complex mastering chains to be built and controlled entirely within the digital domain.
The processing structure of Drawmer DC2476 is centred around a carefully ordered signal chain optimised for mastering workflows. The signal first passes through a dynamic equaliser with an integrated full-band bootstrap compressor, followed by a five-band analogue-modelled parametric equaliser. From there, the signal is split into three user-definable frequency bands, each processed independently by a three-band expander, three-band bootstrap compressor, three-band limiter, and a three-band tube saturation stage. After recombination, the signal is routed to the output section, which includes band level trims, automatic fades, output trim, and dithering.
A defining feature of Drawmer DC2476 is its automated gain management system, which continuously monitors levels throughout the signal path and prevents internal overloads. This system makes the unit effectively impossible to clip internally, while still allowing aggressive processing when required. The bootstrap compression design increases lower-level detail rather than simply reducing peaks, resulting in more intuitive control and musical results, particularly in multiband operation. Programme adaptive attack and release characteristics further enhance transparency across varying programme material.
The tube saturation section uses a triode-style modelling algorithm that introduces harmonic content and soft compression without the noise typically associated with analogue valve circuits. Because saturation is applied independently across three frequency bands, tonal shaping can be achieved with exceptional control, from subtle enhancement to more pronounced spectral reshaping. Stereo width control is also provided per band, allowing precise control of low-frequency mono compatibility and high-frequency spatial enhancement, which is particularly valuable for vinyl mastering and broadcast delivery.
Connectivity on Drawmer DC2476 includes balanced analogue XLR inputs and outputs alongside AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital I/O, with support for sample rates from 32 kHz up to 96 kHz. Word clock input and output allow reliable integration into externally clocked systems. The unit also supports patch storage with 50 factory presets, extensive user memory, optional PCMCIA SRAM expansion, MIDI control, and an internal sine wave generator for calibration and alignment tasks.
