Neil Dorfsman began his career in the late 1970s as an assistant engineer at Electric Lady Studios in New York, where he learned from industry pioneers such as Eddie Kramer. His technical ability and sensitivity to musical detail soon led him to The Power Station, where he became one of the studio’s key engineers. It was there that Dorfsman developed his reputation for clarity and depth, working on sessions for Bruce Springsteen’s The River and Born in the U.S.A..
In 1984, Dorfsman engineered and co-produced Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms, a landmark digital recording that became one of the best-selling albums of all time and earned him a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Recording. The album’s clean, expansive production set a new standard for digital recording in the 1980s and remains a benchmark for sonic quality.
