Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1944, Tony Visconti began his career as a musician and arranger before transitioning to engineering and production. In 1967, he moved to London, where his career took off through his association with producer Denny Cordell and artists such as Joe Cocker and Procol Harum.
Visconti’s partnership with Marc Bolan and T. Rex in the early 1970s propelled him into international prominence. His productions on albums like Electric Warrior and The Slider helped define the glam-rock era, characterised by bold sonic textures and inventive use of space.
Around the same time, he began a lifelong collaboration with David Bowie, starting with Space Oddity (1969) and spanning multiple creative periods, including Young Americans, Heroes, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), and later Heathen and Blackstar.
Throughout his career, Tony Visconti has remained at the forefront of recording innovation.
