The Ex Machina Pulsar MkII is the core studio monitor in the Ex Machina Soundworks range and represents the company’s most versatile and broadly applicable design. Pulsar MkII is engineered with a singular purpose: to deliver the most accurate, effortless, and reliable insight possible for professional audio work. Every aspect of the system is designed to function as a unified whole, allowing engineers and producers to make confident decisions that translate outside the control room.
At the low end, the Ex Machina Pulsar MkII employs a custom SEAS Extreme Series subwoofer engineered for low distortion and long linear excursion. Its rigid aluminium diaphragm and advanced motor design deliver bass that is both deep and tightly controlled, providing precision and reach without overhang or exaggeration. This low frequency performance forms a stable foundation for critical monitoring across a wide range of material.
Midrange and high frequency reproduction is handled by a coaxial driver assembly that places the midrange and tweeter on a common acoustic centre. The midrange and tweeter diaphragms use Composite Sound Metamodal TeXtreme carbon fibre fabrics, combining extremely low mass with exceptional stiffness. These advanced materials and optimised fibre geometries are specifically chosen to control and suppress resonances, resulting in exceptionally clean and transparent reproduction. A mathematically optimised midrange waveguide, underhung surround design, and precise point source alignment ensure smooth off-axis response and consistent tonal balance throughout the listening area. A state of the art neodymium motor system further reduces distortion and improves dynamic accuracy of the Ex Machina Pulsar MkII.
The electronics platform in the Ex Machina Pulsar MkII is built to be sonically invisible. Conversion is based around flagship AKM Velvet Sound AK4493 and AK5572 converters, chosen for their transparency and lack of audible character. Power amplification is provided by Hypex Ncore modules, delivering high efficiency and extremely low distortion with ample clean headroom. System control and processing are handled by fifth generation SHARC+ DSP hardware, providing the computational power required for complex, high precision signal processing.
The cabinet design is equally uncompromising. The Ex Machina Pulsar MkII uses sealed Valchromat enclosures that are stiff, dense, and highly damped. This construction eliminates port noise and avoids the group delay associated with ported designs, resulting in tighter transient response and more accurate low frequency timing. Final performance is refined using proprietary in house DSP calibration code that flattens frequency response while also optimising phase and impulse behaviour, allowing the Ex Machina Pulsar MkII to present an exceptionally coherent and truthful picture of the audio signal.
