The Ex Machina Quasar MkII is the penultimate studio monitor in the Ex Machina Soundworks range, delivering the same imaging precision, time coherence, detail, and accuracy as the Pulsar MkII, but with significantly greater output capability and low frequency extension. This is achieved through a dual subwoofer architecture combined with an axisymmetric sub-coax-sub layout, designed to produce an exceptionally coherent hemispherical wavefront. The result is superior integration across all frequencies, maintaining consistent response at any listening distance or angle within the defined 90 × 90 degree conical coverage, making the Ex Machina Quasar MkII suitable for larger control rooms and more demanding monitoring environments.
Low frequency reproduction is provided by dual custom SEAS Extreme Series subwoofers. These drivers use low distortion, long stroke motor designs paired with rigid aluminium diaphragms to deliver bass with exceptional precision, control, and depth. The dual subwoofer configuration increases headroom and extension while preserving tight transient behaviour, ensuring low frequencies remain articulate and reliable rather than exaggerated.
Midrange and high frequency reproduction is handled by a coaxial midrange and tweeter assembly that shares a common acoustic centre. The diaphragms employ Composite Sound Metamodal TeXtreme carbon fibre materials, chosen for their ultra-light weight, extreme stiffness, and optimised fibre geometries that actively suppress resonances. A mathematically optimised midrange waveguide, underhung surround geometry, and precisely aligned point source acoustic centre provide smooth off-axis behaviour and stable imaging throughout the listening area. A state of the art neodymium motor system further reduces distortion and enhances dynamic accuracy.
The electronics platform of the Ex Machina Quasar MkII is designed to remain sonically transparent. Digital to analogue and analogue to digital conversion is based on flagship AKM Velvet Sound AK4493 and AK5572 devices, selected to leave no audible footprint on the signal. Amplification is handled by Hypex Ncore modules, delivering high efficiency, extremely low distortion, and substantial clean power reserves. System control and processing are managed by fifth generation SHARC+ DSP hardware, providing the computational performance required for advanced, high precision signal processing.
The Ex Machina Quasar MkII is housed in sealed Valchromat cabinets that are stiff, dense, and heavily damped. This sealed enclosure design eliminates port noise and avoids the group delay associated with ported systems, resulting in improved transient accuracy and time domain performance. Final system performance is achieved using proprietary in house DSP calibration code that completely flattens frequency response while also optimising phase and impulse behaviour, delivering a highly coherent and revealing monitoring system.
