The Looptrotter EMPEROR 500 is an analogue dynamics processor designed for the 500 series format, capable of working as a compressor, limiter, or harmonic distortion generator depending on settings. Inspired by transistor compressors and limiters of the 1960s, it delivers a distinctive analogue character that enhances perceived loudness, warms the signal, and adds brightness in a pleasing and musical way.
At the core of the Looptrotter EMPEROR 500 is a FET transistor, responsible for amplification, gain reduction, and the introduction of subtle low-order harmonics. The INPUT section features a “PROCESS” button for true bypass operation and an LED gain reduction meter with 8 segments for precise visual feedback. Two independent filters in the control circuit allow timbre shaping without phase issues. Engaging low-frequency filtering results in more transparent processing with reduced distortion on bass-heavy material, while high-frequency boosting enables the Looptrotter EMPEROR 500 to act as an analogue de-esser or ultra-fast compressor for controlling bright, dynamic sources.
The module provides three factory attack/release presets: FAST, which puts the unit in limiter mode with dense, saturated character; MED, which sets it as a fast compressor; and SLOW, which emulates the behaviour of a vintage analogue compressor. Independent DRY and WET controls make it easy to blend the original and processed signals for subtle tonal colour or fully engaged compression, ensuring maximum versatility.
