Looptrotter SATUR-8/24 is a unique discrete Class A 24 channel summing mixer featuring 8 channels of analogue, solid state saturation. Its design takes inspiration from vintage tube mixing consoles and tape recorders from the 1960s to deliver warmth, colour and musical harmonics. The summing module combines original operational amplifier circuitry with a blend of active and passive voltage summing. The mixed signal is then amplified by a transistor preamplifier operating in pure discrete Class A.
In addition, the summing circuit includes the Magic module, which warms and opens the whole mix to create a vivid analogue feel that is especially valuable in productions dominated by digitally generated sounds. Looptrotter SATUR-8/24 is a versatile and creative tool for processing individual tracks, subgroups and complete mixes.
The saturation circuit, inspired by classic tape recorders and analogue consoles, smooths signal peaks and adds low order harmonics. The Looptrotter SATUR-8/24 also behaves as a soft limiter, enabling higher RMS levels without unwanted distortion while remaining neat, detailed and crisp. The DRIVE control sets input level and saturation depth, producing ear friendly distortion and an audibly higher RMS level. The LED meter shows the amount of added harmonics, with orange indicating above 4% THD and red indicating above 8% THD.
Connectivity is comprehensive on the Looptrotter SATUR-8/24. Balanced XLR connections are provided for the monitor and main outputs, balanced TRS is used for insert inputs and outputs, and DB25 handles the channel inputs and outputs. The unit can operate not only as a summing mixer but also as an 8 channel saturator for stems, groups or the entire mix, thanks to direct outputs from saturation channels 1 to 8.
