Lucid 88192 8-Channel AD/DA Converter

Lucid 88192
The Lucid 88192 is an 8-in/8-out professional analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converter launched in 2006, capable of up to 192 kHz, with multi-format digital I/O, low-jitter clocking, analogue soft-clip and routing-friendly front-panel interface.

Lucid 88192 8-Channel AD/DA Converter Details

The Lucid 88192 A/D D/A Converter was introduced by Symetrix under the Lucid brand at the NAMM show in early 2006. It is a professional eight-channel analogue-to-digital and eight-channel digital-to-analogue converter designed for high-definition studios, post-production and broadcast facilities.

The Lucid 88192 supports sample rates up to 192 kHz and offers multi-format digital I/O including eight channels of AES/EBU and eight channels of ADAT (SMUX2) for flexibility in diverse workflows. On the analogue side the unit offers balanced XLR I/O, adjustable gain and a soft-clip feature that allows optimal operating levels under varied recording scenarios.

Internally the Lucid 88192 uses 24-bit delta/sigma conversion technology for both A/D and D/A paths and benefits from Lucid’s low-jitter clocking architecture.

The front-panel interface of the Lucid 88192 is designed for quick, efficient operation using a rotary encoder and display rather than deep menu trees, enabling swift setup and real-time routing of input to output channels. Physically the unit occupies 2U of rack space with a 48.26 cm width, 22.86 cm depth and 88.1 mm height and weighs approximately 7.7 kg when shipping.

In retrospect the Lucid 88192 offered a level of conversion fidelity, format flexibility and studio-friendly routing at a competitive price point, and though the model has since been discontinued it remains sought after in legacy digital recording setups.
