The Manley Reference Gold Mic represents the pinnacle of large-diaphragm tube microphone design, combining proprietary capsule technology with continuously variable polar pattern control for exceptional versatility. Hand-assembled in California with an all-tube triode signal path, the Manley Reference Gold is engineered to capture acoustic sources with minimal coloration while maintaining extended dynamic range and extremely low noise.
The microphone provides continuously variable polar pattern adjustment from omnidirectional through cardioid to figure-of-eight, with every intermediate position accessible via seamless control. This allows precise optimisation of off-axis response, proximity effect, and room interaction during recording.
At the core of the design is a precision-built one-inch capsule featuring a 24-karat gold-sputtered diaphragm tensioned using proprietary techniques developed by David Josephson. The microphone body is precision-machined from solid brass and finished with 24-karat gold plating, ensuring mechanical stability and consistent acoustic behaviour. High-voltage all-tube triode circuitry delivers a maximum sound pressure level of 150 dB with wide dynamic range and low distortion.
Powered by the Manley Power supply, the Manley Reference Gold provides extended headroom and reliable long-term performance for vocals and acoustic instruments in world-class recording and mastering facilities. Each microphone is hand-assembled and tested by Manley Laboratories in California.
