The Mutec MC1.2+ is a high-quality digital-to-digital converter that offers comprehensive format conversion alongside enhanced USB audio performance. Designed for both audiophile systems and professional studio environments, it enables seamless integration of digital audio devices by supporting real-time conversion between USB, AES3, AES3id, and S/P-DIF formats. The Mutec MC1.2+ is equipped with a broad range of input and output connections, allowing simultaneous bidirectional format conversion, including full duplex communication with a computer via USB for the first time in a Mutec unit.
When audio is received via the USB interface of the Mutec MC1.2+, it is automatically routed to all PCM digital outputs, enabling multiple devices to receive the same signal from a single source. Conversely, when a PCM input is selected, the signal is distributed to all outputs and also converted into a USB audio stream for transmission to a computer. If both signal paths use the same sample rate, they can operate at the same time, supporting applications such as inserting external effects or recording with real-time monitoring through the computer.
The format conversion process strictly adheres to standards set by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), ensuring electrical and data-format compatibility across devices. This allows, for example, a high-quality DAC without a USB interface to be integrated into a USB-based playback system, or enables the use of a BNC connection where its superior shielding and electrical performance is preferred.
In addition to its format conversion capabilities, the Mutec MC1.2+ features a newly developed asynchronous USB interface equipped with low-noise audio clock oscillators. This regenerates the audio signal, isolates USB power interference, and significantly reduces digital phase noise and jitter. As a result, both home listeners and studio professionals benefit from improved sound clarity and detail.
Power flexibility is another strong point of the Mutec MC1.2+. It can be powered directly via the USB port for portable use, or through a high-grade internal power supply for studio or home use. An additional DC input is available for those who wish to use an external power source for even greater control. A front-panel display and LED status indicators offer clear visual feedback for all operating states and functions.
The Mutec MC1.2+ is built with robust materials including a steel chassis and aluminium front panel, offered in black or silver finishes. Vibration-damping feet and optional rack ears allow for both desktop and rack-mounted installation. Manufactured in Germany, the Mutec MC1.2+ is engineered to provide professional-grade reliability and performance in any digital audio environment.
