The Ocean Way Audio HR4 Reference Monitor is a high resolution, wide dynamic range monitoring system developed to meet the demands of professional recording, mixing, and mastering environments. Designed as an integrated 24 inch two way dual horn system, the Ocean Way Audio HR4 Reference Monitor is intended to deliver an exceptionally accurate and consistent monitoring experience in rooms of varying sizes. Its compact footprint allows flexible placement while maintaining the scale, authority, and precision expected from a full reference monitor.
At the core of the Ocean Way Audio HR4 Reference Monitor is a proprietary dual hybrid horn and waveguide system engineered using high grade 3D solid modelling. This advanced design process enables the creation of complex geometries that ensure accurate directivity control and precisely matched imaging across the listening field.
The result is an ultra wide 100 degree horizontal by 40 degree vertical dispersion window that remains consistent from 35Hz to 22kHz. This exceptionally wide and controlled dispersion produces a large horizontal sweet spot with stable stereo imaging that remains intact even at the outer edges of the room, allowing multiple listeners to experience the same tonal balance and spatial accuracy.
The high frequency section of the Ocean Way Audio HR4 Reference Monitor utilises a high resolution 1 inch compression driven HF driver designed for excellent mechanical linearity and low distortion. The low frequency section employs a geometrically reinforced 8 inch aluminium cone driver mounted in a ported cabinet, combined with a vented cast aluminium chassis to provide optimum structural strength and reduced compression under dynamic conditions. Together, these components are carefully integrated to achieve a seamless transition between frequency bands, delivering clarity, impact, and coherence across the entire spectrum.
The Ocean Way Audio HR4 Reference Monitor is a self powered two way system delivering 250 watts per side, with support for both analogue and digital inputs, including acceptance of 24 bit / 192kHz data streams. The matched and uniform frequency response, combined with an exceptional maximum output capability of 116dB between channels, allows the HR4 to operate confidently at both low and high monitoring levels.
Despite its compact size, the low frequency performance is substantial enough to eliminate the need for a subwoofer in many applications. For studios requiring extreme playback levels, a three way configuration is available using a pair of additional ported subwoofer cabinets, each fitted with 12 inch low frequency drivers and delivering 700 watts per side. The Ocean Way Audio HR4 Reference Monitor was released in 2019 and reflects the brand’s instrument-like approach to component selection, matching, and overall system voicing.
