Otari DTR-8 Digital Audio Tape Recorder

Otari proudly introduced a new R-DAT recorder in 1995, the Otari DTR-8. The Otari DTR-8 follows the concept of the familiar DTR-7, but with greatly enhanced capabilities.

Otari DTR-8 Digital Audio Tape Recorder Details

The Otari DTR-8 uses a 2-head mechanism for professional quality and conforms to the EIAJ conference standard for compatibility with other R-DAT recorders, including consumer models.

For professional use, the Otari DTR-8 has +4 dBu (- 10 dBV switchable) active balanced analog 1/0 with XL type connectors and has both AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital 1/0. In search mode the Otari DTR-8 uses TOC information from tape to locate up to 300 times normal play speed. The Otari DTR-8 does not use SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) for maximum flexibility in professional environments.

  • Higher sound quality by pulse flow 1 bit D/A converters, 1-bit wide range linear A/D converters, etc.
  • Two digital audio interfaces: AES/EBU and S/PDIF (coaxial).
  • Subcodes: Various time information, start ID, skip ID, end ID, etc. can be written on and erased from the tape. TOC information for tape editing and archiving is also available.
  • Q code synchronized start ID: When receiving digital signal input from a compact disc player, the Q code in the signal is used to write start IDs precisely even there is no blank between tracks.
