Prism Sound DA-2 is a professional 96 kHz, 24-bit digital to analogue converter developed to provide ultimate-quality monitoring for critical recording, mastering and broadcast environments. Designed as the natural counterpart to the Prism Sound AD-2, the Prism Sound DA-2 focuses on absolute transparency, precision and stability, delivering highly revealing analogue outputs that allow engineers to hear exactly what is present in the digital signal.
A central design goal of the Prism Sound DA-2 is the elimination of jitter-related artefacts. The converter employs an exceptionally stable phase-locked loop with very high jitter attenuation, ensuring accurate clock recovery and rock-steady conversion even when locked to imperfect external sources. In addition to this, the Dream DA-2 can operate in a dedicated master clock mode, in which the effects of incoming clock jitter are eliminated completely. The digital outputs can also provide a de-jittered digital feed-through, supporting reliable downstream digital transfers.
The analogue output stage of the Prism Sound Dream DA-2 is engineered for both simplicity and performance. Outputs are fully floating, electronically balanced and transformerless, minimising noise and preserving signal integrity. Precision attenuators allow the analogue line-up level to be adjusted over a wide range, covering both professional and consumer operating levels with very fine resolution. This makes the unit suitable for use in a wide variety of studio and mastering signal chains without compromise.
Interfacing flexibility is another defining characteristic of the Prism Sound DA-2. The unit supports both high-speed and two-wire digital interfacing for 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz operation, allowing straightforward integration with a broad range of professional and consumer digital audio equipment. Multiple digital input and output formats are provided, enabling the Dream DA-2 to function as a high-quality monitoring converter as well as a reliable digital routing and distribution point.
Measured performance reflects the Prism Sound DA-2’s design intent. Dynamic range exceeds 115 dB A-weighted, with extremely low distortion, excellent channel matching and negligible idle noise. Frequency response is flat across the audible band, and inter-channel phase deviation is kept exceptionally low, contributing to stable stereo imaging and accurate spatial reproduction. These characteristics established the Prism Sound DA-2 as a reference-grade monitoring converter in demanding professional environments.
