The TASCAM DA Series, introduced in the early 1990s, brought high-quality digital multitrack recording to studios transitioning from analogue tape. Centred around DAT- and DTRS-based recorders such as the DA-30, DA-40, DA-88, and DA-98, the series offered reliable 16- and 24-bit digital recording with SMPTE and MIDI synchronisation, modular expandability, and robust tape-based workflows. The DA-88 in particular became a studio standard, widely adopted for music, film, and television production due to its stability and sound quality. Combining TASCAM’s analogue engineering heritage with digital precision, the DA Series defined an era of professional multitrack digital recording throughout the 1990s.
