The Shure SM7B is a dynamic vocal microphone designed for broadcasting, professional podcasts, and critical studio recordings. It features a flat, wide-range frequency response for clean reproduction of music and speech, along with advanced shielding against electromagnetic interference. The unit includes an internal air suspension shock isolation system and a highly effective pop filter to minimise mechanical noise and plosive sounds.
The SM7B utilises a dynamic cartridge with a flat, wide-range frequency response, providing exceptionally clean and natural reproduction of both music and speech. It is engineered with improved rejection of electromagnetic hum, specifically optimised for shielding against broadband interference emitted by computer monitors, neon lights, and other electrical devices.
The microphone incorporates an internal ‘air suspension’ shock isolation system that virtually eliminates mechanical noise transmission. A highly effective pop filter is integrated to eliminate the need for add-on protection against explosive breath sounds, even during close-up vocals or narration. The unit now ships with the A7WS detachable windscreen, which is designed to reduce plosive sounds and provide a warmer tone for close-talk applications.
Control features include bass rolloff and mid-range emphasis (presence boost) controls, accompanied by a graphic display of the response setting. The microphone employs a classic cardioid polar pattern that is uniform with frequency and symmetrical about the axis, providing maximum rejection and minimum colouration of off-axis sound. The yoke mounting system includes a captive stand nut for easy mounting and dismounting, allowing for precise control of microphone position.
The SM7B features rugged construction and excellent cartridge protection for outstanding reliability. It has been updated from earlier models with an improved bracket design that offers greater stability. The package includes the SM7B microphone, one A7WS detachable windscreen, and one RPM602 switch cover plate. The replacement cartridge for this model is the RPM106.
