The Solid State Logic Super 9000 channel strip encapsulates the full power of SSL’s SuperAnalogue™ technology in a 1U rackmount design. Derived from the legendary SL 9000 J and refined through the Duality console, it offers the ultra-low distortion, extended bandwidth, and exceptional transient response that define the modern SSL sound. The Solid State Logic Super 9000 is an all-in-one analogue channel strip designed to deliver the punch, depth, and clarity that have made SSL consoles the benchmark in world-class studios.
The heritage of the 9000 Series runs deep. From hip-hop and R&B pioneers such as Dr Dre, Jay-Z, NAS, and Mary J Blige to rock acts including Metallica, and studios such as Abbey Road, Metropolis, Real World, Record Plant, and Power Station, the 9000’s open and dynamic sound helped craft countless iconic records. The Solid State Logic Super 9000 brings that same sonic DNA into a compact modern format for today’s hybrid workflows.
At the heart of the unit lies SSL’s SuperAnalogue™ circuit topology. It achieves its pristine transparency through a super-wide bandwidth design, ruler-flat frequency response, low noise floor, and minimal phase shift across the audible spectrum. The result is unmatched depth, definition, and realism.
The dual-mode mic preamp allows engineers to select between the clean SuperAnalogue™ input stage or SSL’s Variable Harmonic Drive (VHD™) circuit, capable of adding 2nd or 3rd order harmonics for tube-like warmth or solid-state edge. An Input Flip function enables line signals to be processed through the VHD circuit, perfect for adding analogue character to DAW stems or external sources.
The dynamics section employs SSL’s acclaimed THAT 2181A VCA-based compressor, featuring switchable fast attack, Peak Detect mode, and program-dependent behaviour. The expander/gate includes variable hysteresis and Hold control, while the section can be placed pre- or post-EQ for greater flexibility.
A 4-band EQ section provides the choice of the G-Series 292 ‘Pink Knob’ or E-Series 242 ‘Black Knob’ circuits. The 292 delivers variable-Q curves ideal for musical tone shaping, while the 242 offers constant-Q precision for surgical control. The EQ also features flexible frequency scaling and switchable shelving/bell responses, along with high-pass and low-pass filters that can be inserted into the signal path or sidechain.
Routing flexibility is a core part of the Solid State Logic Super 9000 design. Engineers can reposition the balanced insert, route filters to input or dynamics sidechain, and link compressors between two units for stereo operation. External sidechain inputs and an output trim ensure seamless integration into any studio setup.
