The Behringer LM DRUM utilises an authentic 8/12-bit sampling sound engine to capture the essence of legendary 1980s drum sounds. It includes 109 drum sounds, covering iconic models such as the LM1, LM2, and LM9000. Users can record and store their own samples using the integrated line input, allowing for custom sound design alongside the factory presets. The machine employs 16 DACs with variable sample rate and authentic 8/12-bit resolution to maintain the characteristic digital texture of the era.
To provide warmth and organic character, the Behringer LM DRUM incorporates analogue circuitry, specifically the original 3320 VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter) and 2164 VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier). The 16-voice architecture includes independent level and pan controls for each voice, enabling the creation of complex and dynamic drum arrangements. An integrated FX bus features a Wave Designer and a dual-mode Analogue Filter with per-voice assignment, offering additional sonic options and creative control over the output.
The Behringer LM DRUM is equipped with a powerful 64-step drum sequencer that supports poly-metre, step-repeat, note-repeat, real-time triggering, track-mute, and track-solo functions. Performance is facilitated by 16 velocity-sensitive drum pads with aftertouch. An encoder allows for the editing of parameters such as Tempo, Swing, Probability, Flam, and Random. The system also supports live recording, editing, and playback of the analogue filter cutoff via automation, adding movement and expression to the drum patterns.
For studio and live applications, the Behringer LM DRUM offers 16 independent analogue outputs for external processing or multi-track recording. Connectivity includes comprehensive MIDI In/Out/Thru and USB implementation for synchronisation and connection to external devices. Sync options include USB, MIDI, Clock, and Internal. The interface features a high-visibility 128×64 LCD graphic display for editing program parameters, along with powerful headphone and main outputs on 1/4″ connectors.
Storage capabilities allow for up to 8 songs and 128 patterns, all of which can be imported and exported during playback. Pattern Mode allows for the arrangement of patterns into full songs with setting of repeat counts per song part, while Song Mode enables chaining songs together for live sets. A unique Auto Scroll feature enables improvisation in all modes, allowing users to tweak drums on the fly during performance.
