The Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor was designed as a comprehensive sound design and processing solution for professional recording studios, live sound environments, and post production facilities. Built around Alesis’ dedicated 24-bit DSP architecture, the Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor offers a flexible multi-block processing system capable of running up to eight simultaneous programmable effects, or allocating its full processing power to a single high-quality reverb. This architecture positioned the Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor as a versatile tool for both complex multi-effects chains and focused ambience processing.
At the core of the Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor is an extensive library of more than fifty effect types available across its eight processing blocks. These include multiple reverb algorithms such as hall, room, and plate, alongside modulation and processing tools including flanging, chorus, pitch shifting, delay, rotary speaker simulation, overdrive, autopanning with Doppler effects, graphic and parametric EQ, and stereo sampling. The unit’s 300 onboard programs, created by professional engineers and artists, provide a broad range of ready-to-use processing options while allowing for deep customisation through user programming.
The Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor integrates easily into a wide range of studio and live setups through its comprehensive connectivity. It provides both XLR and 1/4-inch TRS analogue connections, supporting balanced and unbalanced operation, ensuring compatibility with professional and project studio equipment. Digital integration is equally robust, with ADAT Optical and S/PDIF digital input and output connections enabling direct interfacing with digital mixers, ADAT systems, and workstation environments without additional conversion stages. A BNC word clock connection allows synchronisation within larger digital systems.
Audio performance in the Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor is supported by 20-bit digital conversion with 256x oversampling on both A/D and D/A stages, contributing to a wide dynamic range and low distortion characteristics. The processor operates at a standard 48kHz sampling rate, with the ability to vary between 40.4kHz and 50.8kHz under external control, allowing it to adapt to different system requirements.
The Alesis Q20 Multieffects Processor was conceived as a complete effects solution, combining reverb, modulation, dynamics, and spatial processing within a single rackmount unit. Its combination of flexible routing, extensive effect algorithms, digital and analogue connectivity, and programmable architecture made it suitable for a wide range of production tasks, from studio tracking and mixing to live performance and sound design.
