Audix SCX25A Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone Details

The Audix SCX25A is a professional studio condenser microphone featuring a patented capsule suspension system that isolates the capsule from the body and electronics. Designed with a machined brass ring and a wide cardioid polar pattern, it delivers a pure, open-air sound with exceptional detail and realism. The microphone is engineered for consistent response to on and off-axis signals, offering outstanding phase coherence and minimal proximity effect, making it suitable for capturing acoustic instruments, vocals, and drum overheads.

The Audix SCX25A utilises a patented capsule suspension system where the capsule is uniquely shock-mounted within an intricate machined brass ring. This design completely isolates the capsule from the microphone body and electronics, successfully minimising acoustic reflections and diffractions to produce a pure, open-air sound with high levels of detail and realism.

The microphone exhibits a wide cardioid polar pattern, which allows sound engineers to blend the sound of the instrument or vocal with the ambient room sound. It maintains consistency when responding to both on-axis and off-axis signals, demonstrating outstanding phase coherence and minimal proximity effect. The Audix SCX25A is capable of handling sound pressure levels in excess of 135 dB and provides up to 20 dB of ambient noise rejection.

Constructed with a fine steel mesh grill and a body machined from brass with a black finish, the Audix SCX25A is designed, machined, assembled, and tested by Audix in Wilsonville, Oregon. It is a low-impedance microphone that requires 48 to 52 V phantom power to operate and connects via a 3-pin XLR male connector. The front of the microphone element, indicated by the printing, should face the sound source.

The Audix SCX25A is versatile for various studio and live sound applications, including piano, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, ambient room miking, studio and backing vocals, voice-over, choir, and orchestra. It is affectionately referred to as “The Lollipop” due to its design. The microphone is supplied with a protective zippered carrying case and a DCLIP microphone clip. Optional accessories include the APS2 phantom power supply, DFLEX dual pivot rim mounted clip, STANDKD short pedestal stand, SMT25 shock mount, PD133 pop diffuser, CBL20 microphone cable, and P1 carrying pouch.
