The Mercury Recording Equipment EQ-P2 Studio Programme Equaliser is a dual-mono evolution of the acclaimed EQ-P1, offering two independent channels of Mercury’s celebrated valve equalisation in a single 3U unit. Based on the vintage Pultec EQP-1A circuit, the EQ-P2 combines a passive EQ section with a fully balanced push-pull gain make-up amplifier, ensuring the same unmistakable warmth, openness and musicality that engineers have relied upon for decades.
Each channel of the EQ-P2 features transformer-balanced XLR inputs and outputs, premium passive components, and the same robust build quality found across the Mercury range. Modern improvements include a more powerful and stable power supply and DC-driven valve heaters for improved performance and reliability. The EQ-P2 also includes Mercury’s signature I.S.T. Switch, allowing engineers to switch the interstage transformer in or out of the signal path. With the transformer engaged, the EQ-P2 delivers the traditional, warm, vintage tone; with it bypassed, the sound becomes more open and airy, offering a second tonal character instantly without altering the EQ settings.
As with its predecessors, the EQ-P2 excels at the classic “Pultec trick” in the low frequencies, providing powerful, musical bass shaping, while its high-frequency section adds silky presence and air. Whether used for tracking, mixing or mastering, the EQ-P2 delivers results that are consistently musical and inspiring. Its dual-channel design makes it particularly well-suited for stereo bus processing, offering engineers and producers the ability to add depth, clarity and warmth across a mix while maintaining precise stereo balance.
The Mercury EQ-P2 brings together the heritage of the Pultec design and Mercury’s own refinements, making it one of the most flexible and powerful tube equalisers available today.
