The Roland TR-08 Rhythm Composer is a detailed and faithful recreation of the legendary TR-808 drum machine, widely regarded as the most famous and influential drum machine ever created. First released in 1980, the TR-808 went on to define countless genres and tracks across decades, its booming bass drum, sizzling hi-hats, snapping snares, robotic rim shots, and unmistakable cowbell becoming staples of electronic, hip-hop, pop, and dance music.
Original TR-808s are now rare, heavy, and prohibitively expensive, but the Roland TR-08 brings the sound, character, and iconic interface of the original into the modern Roland Boutique format. Using Roland’s proprietary Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology, it models each analogue circuit at the component level, capturing every nuance and quirk of the original hardware with stunning accuracy.
Compact and affordable, the Roland TR-08 retains the authentic workflow of the original with tone, level, tuning, and decay controls for hands-on shaping, alongside classic Step and Tap write modes for sequencing. Enhancements include a sequencer with 16 steps and 16 sub-steps, enabling intricate fills and detailed programming, while a dedicated trigger output allows integration with external gear such as the TB-03, SH-01A, or modular systems.
The Roland TR-08 adds practical modern features like a built-in compressor, gain, tune, and pan controls for selected instruments, an LED display for precise tempo and shuffle adjustment, ten individual USB audio outputs, and full MIDI/USB integration for studio and live performance setups.
Built for mobility and creative flexibility, the Roland TR-08 is ruggedly constructed with a metal front panel, includes the DK-01 Boutique Dock for multiple viewing angles, and runs on batteries or USB power. It even includes a built-in mini speaker for instant sound anywhere. The result is a portable, reliable, and affordable drum machine that delivers the unmistakable boom and sizzle of the 808, blending timeless character with modern convenience and accessibility.
