The Sebatron VMPQuadPlus Quad Valve Pre is a four-channel valve microphone preamplifier designed for engineers and producers who want precise control over the amount of valve colour in their signal.
Closely related to the Sebatron VMP-4000e, the Sebatron VMPQuadPlus shares most of the same circuit design but introduces subtle refinements, including a slightly wider frequency response, extra gain and deeper low-end extension. These differences, while sometimes subtle in practice, provide additional flexibility for demanding recording applications.
One of the key changes is the removal of the ‘deep’ circuitry, which frees up gain for a pad/gain control located between the two valve stages. This allows users to fine-tune the harmonic texture and saturation of the valves. Combined with the normal/+12dB toggle, the Sebatron VMPQuadPlus provides a wide tonal range: in ‘normal’ mode, a touch of negative feedback ensures a cleaner, more transparent sound, while the +12dB setting runs the circuit in open loop for richer valve colour. This design gives engineers the versatility to handle everything from sensitive ribbon microphones to high-output condensers without external pads.
Practical updates include a front panel faceplate for added shielding and switch protection, as well as individual signal LEDs per channel to confirm activity. These refinements, paired with its flexible gain structure and valve warmth, make the Sebatron VMPQuadPlus well-suited to a wide variety of recording contexts, from acoustic instruments to full drum kits.
