The Solid State Logic Alpha 8 is a professional-grade 8-input, 8-output analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converter, purpose-built to expand your studio with SSL’s renowned audio fidelity and engineering excellence. Building on the legacy of the Alpha Link series, Solid State Logic Alpha 8 functions as either a high-performance ADAT and S/PDIF converter or a full 18-input, 18-output USB-C audio interface.
Equipped with next-generation 32-bit / 192 kHz converters, it offers exceptional dynamic range, ultra-low total harmonic distortion plus noise, and virtually inaudible crosstalk, making it ideal for integrating outboard processors, vintage synths, samplers, drum machines and more into any studio setup with uncompromised signal integrity.
Each of the eight balanced analogue inputs and outputs can be individually set to operate at +9 dBu, +18 dBu, +20 dBu or +24 dBu, allowing precise gain staging with a wide variety of connected equipment, from rackmount processors and mixers to modular systems and monitor controllers. On the digital side, Solid State Logic Alpha 8 includes eight channels of ADAT I/O and two channels of S/PDIF, with word clock input and output for rock-solid synchronisation across your digital ecosystem.
In USB mode, Solid State Logic Alpha 8 transforms into a complete 18-in/18-out audio interface, capable of handling simultaneous analogue and digital I/O. The DC-coupled analogue outputs add further flexibility by allowing control voltage (CV) signals to be sent to modular synths, CV pedals and sequencer-based setups. A high-current headphone output is included for critical monitoring and auditioning of any input or output, with selectable modes to optimise for a wide range of headphone types.
SSL’s flexible routing architecture supports a wide array of workflow possibilities, from acting as a bridge between digital and analogue domains to serving as a comprehensive expansion module for existing SSL interfaces. It integrates seamlessly with the SSL 18, allowing users to increase I/O count by 8 or 16 channels over ADAT by connecting one or two Solid State Logic Alpha 8 units, respectively.
