Neumann KH 420 Studio Monitor

The Neumann KH 420 is a high-power three-way midfield studio monitor delivering 26 Hz–22 kHz response, 122.4 dB SPL, LRIM™ cabinet design, MMD™ waveguide, and tri-amplified Class AB precision for uncompromising accuracy in professional control rooms.

Neumann KH 420 Studio Monitor Details

The Neumann KH 420 is a three-way, tri-amplified midfield studio monitor designed for the most demanding recording, mixing, and mastering environments. Built to deliver reference-grade precision at working distances between 1.5 and 3 metres, it combines Neumann’s renowned accuracy with immense power reserves and controlled dispersion, ensuring consistent, neutral performance in any professional studio.

At the heart of the Neumann KH 420 are three dedicated Class AB amplifiers providing a total of 610 watts, 330 W for the low frequencies and 2 × 140 W for the midrange and high frequencies. The system’s bass driver, an in-house designed long-throw composite sandwich-cone with Extremely Linear Force Factor™ (ELFF™) technology, achieves an impressive low-frequency extension down to 26 Hz without distortion. The midrange is handled by a lightweight neodymium-magnet fabric dome driver that delivers exceptional transient response and low intermodulation distortion, while the alloy fabric dome tweeter ensures distortion-free high-frequency detail and clarity.

The Neumann KH 420’s Mathematically Modelled Dispersion™ (MMD™) waveguide provides precise horizontal dispersion for a wide listening area and narrower vertical dispersion to minimise reflections from surfaces such as mixing consoles. This controlled directivity guarantees a stable, accurate stereo image and consistent frequency response in a variety of acoustic environments.

The computer-optimised cabinet, made from Low Resonance Integral Moulding™ (LRIM™) materials, eliminates internal standing waves and suppresses intermodulation distortion, resulting in a cleaner and more transparent sound. Flow-optimised bass reflex ports with pipe-resonance damping ensure fast transient response and deep, uncoloured bass, even at high SPLs of up to 122.4 dB.

The Neumann KH 420 features extensive acoustic tuning options, including four-position bass, low-mid and treble controls, a three-band parametric EQ, and wide-range input and output level controls. Its rear electronics panel integrates Accelerated Heat Tunnelling™ (AHT™) heat dissipation for increased reliability and can be remotely located via the optional REK 4 kit for installation flexibility.

For digital workflows, the optional DIM 1 module adds AES3 digital I/O (up to 192 kHz/24-bit) with adjustable delay (0–400 ms) for lip-sync and phase alignment. When paired with the Neumann KH 750 DSP subwoofer and MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment software, the Neumann KH 420 can be fully calibrated to the room for time- and frequency-accurate playback.

Combining immense headroom, wide frequency range, and pinpoint imaging, the Neumann KH 420 stands as Neumann’s definitive midfield reference monitor, powerful, precise, and perfectly engineered for critical listening environments.
