Before moving entirely into the digital domain, Andrew Scheps was known for his powerful hybrid analogue setup, which featured an array of outboard effects and processors that helped define his bold, punchy sound.
Central to his workflow was a Neve 8068 console, paired with a carefully curated selection of analogue gear that included UREI 1176 and Teletronix LA-2A compressors for dynamic control, Empirical Labs Distressors for parallel compression, and dbx 160s for drums and bass. For tonal shaping he relied on Pultec EQP-1A equalisers, API 550A modules, and GML 8200 mastering EQs, while ambience and spatial effects were handled through Lexicon 480L, AMS RMX16, and EMT 140 plate reverbs. Delays often came from Roland Space Echo and Eventide H3000 units, used to add movement and width.
This combination of analogue texture and creative signal routing gave Scheps’s early mixes their trademark warmth, saturation, and explosive depth, characteristics he later recreated digitally once he transitioned fully in-the-box.
