Since its completion in 1956, Capitol Studios has been a staple of the recording industry. Iconic artists like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and The Beach Boys first gave life to its rooms and to this day, major icons of popular music continue in their wake.

Today, Capitol Studios stands on the shoulders of half a century of vision, creativity and imagination. Craft will always be king; perfection will always be the standard the experience will always be uniquely Capitol Studios.

Capitol Studios was recently fully refurbished to ensure that we remained a cutting edge, state-of-the-art facility where artisan craft can continue to thrive as it has for the past 60 years. As can be seen from the lean list of effects, Capital Studios are using a lot more plugins these days, but classic hardware effects are still in use in all three studios.

Capitol Studios Echo Chambers Thirty feet underneath the Capitol Tower lies Capitol Studios’ eight Echo Chambers. These chambers have been used to create some of the most memorable recordings in modern history. Each chamber at Capital Studios has a unique ‘personality’ as each has a unique design, speaker selection, and microphone placement. The trapezoidal chambers were built from reinforced concrete and designed with sloping ceilings to avoid any parallel surfaces.

Approximately 2000 cubic feet, the 8 chambers can provide a maximum reverberation period of 5 seconds, with average signal level the delay is approximately 3 to 3.5 seconds. The chambers deliver a relatively smooth sound decay curve (approximately logarithmic with time) and make a completely natural room tone.
