The Eventide H8000 was Eventide’s most powerful Ultra-Harmonizer effects processor of its period, taking the Orville platform to the next level with more processing power, a higher clock speed and Monolithic Tandem processing. This architecture intimately linked both processors to produce highly complex algorithms, including 5.1 reverb and effects at up to 96kHz.
The Eventide H8000 was designed as a multi-channel effects system with a large library of post-production and music preset-algorithms. The unit included nearly fifteen hundred preset-algorithms, with new search functionality to speed up preset selection and navigation. Eventide positioned the Eventide H8000 as a processor that made its most advanced algorithms easier to access while providing extensive creative routing and processing power.
The Eventide H8000 and H8000A differed in their analogue and digital I/O configurations. The Eventide H8000A offered four channels of analogue input and output combined with four channels of AES/EBU, ADAT and S/PDIF. The H8000 offered two channels of analogue input and output combined with eight channels of AES/EBU, ADAT and S/PDIF. The analogue inputs used either guitar-friendly 6.35mm TRS or XLR input jacks, and the Eventide H8000 also included remotely switchable true bypass.
A major part of the Eventide H8000 was its flexible routing. The unit featured anything-to-anything routing, allowing the processor to be configured to suit different requirements. With the Eventide H8000, users could run multiple effects modules, combine studio-standard effects, create custom effects and organise processing in flexible ways.
The Eventide H8000 included a large range of post-production effects, including CB Radio, Cellular Phone, Long Distance, Random Dialer, Off Hook!, Real Dialer, Megaphone, Shortwave Radio, Traffic Report, Radio, Intercom, Public Address, Fries With That?, Office Intercom, Sound Truck, Talking Dashboard, Clock Radio, Bullhorn, Airplane Background, Jet Flybys, TankAttack, Mortar Shells, Stormwatch, TV in Next Room, Real Call-in and Boom Box. The unit also included templates for eight precision delays for multichannel video post applications, tools for 5.1 frame rate conversion and pitch correction, and a channel for time code delay.
The Eventide H8000 was also designed for 5.1 reverb and multichannel effects. It included 5.1 halls, chambers, rooms, booths, ambient spaces and plates, along with multichannel effects such as individually adjustable sets of straight delays, modulated delays, delays, reverse delays, panning delays, diatonic shifters, flangers, EQs, phasers, tremolos and filters.
The Eventide H8000 introduced MIDI Virtual Racks, with twenty MIDI Virtual Racks that acted like effect processor racks grouped together. Each preset could have different tweaks that could be programmed, stored and controlled in real time through MIDI. Up to forty-five different parameters could be controlled with a single MIDI control message. The Virtual Racks were individually optimised for guitar, vocals and percussion, and were designed to provide instant, zero-latency effect changes. Single effects blocks were also available as separated presets so that effect chains could be assembled using VSIG.

The Eventide H8000 offered extended sample and delay memory, with up to 174 seconds of mono sampling or 87 seconds of stereo sampling. This memory could be used for looping and flying in choruses, and could be combined with the unit’s effects. The Eventide H8000 also provided fast and precise triggering.
Eventide’s Timesqueeze algorithm was included for pitch change and time-compression or expansion on playback. It was designed for broadcast production tasks such as compressing or stretching audio to fit a required duration or cue, while maintaining pitch-change and time-compression capability.
The Eventide H8000 also offered broad external control. The unit included MIDI control, phantom power or analogue control options, 6.35mm TRS inputs for up to two external foot pedals, up to six external footswitches, or a combination. Users could connect almost anything to the processor and control parameters from external controllers. Eventide’s EVE/NET remote provided control and graphics display of the front panel, along with eight continuous controllers.
The Eventide H8000 incorporated Eventide’s UltraShifter technology for formant-maintaining pitch shifting optimised for the human voice. It allowed real-time adaptive resynthesis and was designed for pitch correction, voice transformation and harmony generation. The Eventide H8000 also included analogue and digital connectivity, PCMCIA or flash memory support for OS updates and preset storage, and software upgrade capability.
