Recorded: 1981
Released: 17 July, 1981
Producer: Mike Thorne
Recording Engineer: Don Wershba and Paul Hardiman

Upon it’s release in 1981, Soft Cells’ cover of the old Gloria Jones song Tainted Love became an all time classic that is still played on radio with great regularity around the world.

So successful was their cover, that it went to the number one spot in 17 countries, and went on to set a Guinness World Record at the time for the longest consecutive stay on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart of 43 weeks!

This is a very impressive record that any band would love to have. It is a shame they were unable to follow it up with any significant success since. Marc Almond to his credit, laid the vocal track in the first take.

Given this was the very early 1980s, and digital effects where fairly new, the gear used is fairly predictable for the times, including an EMT 250 for reverb, the DeltaLabs DL-4 digital delay, Lexicon PCM 41 digital delay and the Eventide H910 Harmonizer.

Tainted Love went to the number 1 slot in 17 countires and was Britain's best selling single of 1981
