Pultec

Pultec is a professional audio equipment company that has been producing some of the most revered studio equipment for more than 60 years. The company was founded in 1951 by Eugene Shenk, a pioneer in audio engineering, who developed the company’s first product, the Pultec EQP-1A equalizer.

The EQP-1A was the world’s first equalizer to use passive filters, and it quickly became a favorite among engineers and producers due to its ability to add warmth and character to recordings. The EQP-1A has since become a staple in recording studios around the world and is considered one of the most important pieces of audio equipment ever created.

Over the years, Pultec continued to innovate and produce new and improved versions of its equalizers, including the MEQ-5 and the EQH-2. These products expanded on the company’s legacy of creating warm and characterful equalizers and helped to cement Pultec’s reputation as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality audio equipment.

First introduced in 1951, the Pultec EQP-1 Program Equaliser was the first passive equaliser on the market. Upon its introduction, it changed the recording world forever, offering a new way to manipulate sound. The fact that Pultec equalisers in one form or another are still in use today, is extraordinary.
Pulse Techniques is pleased to offer the Pultec EQP-500X 500-series equaliser, the next generation of our API 2520 gain stage passive equalisers.
Pulse Techniques recently introduced a 500-series version (EQP-500X) of our popular 19″ rack-mount solid-state line amp program equalisers (EQP-1A3-SS & EQP-1S3-SS) equalisers. Based on the venerable API 2520 op-amp followed by a high-quality Triad output transformer, these are preferred by some engineers to the vacuum tube models.
Since rereleasing the Pultec EQP-1A & Pultec EQP-1S, customers have asked when we planned to do mastering versions of these iconic 3U products.
